Five Killed, 16 Injured As Vehicle Rams Into Roadside Market In Benue
Five lives have been lost and 16 persons severely injured after a vehicle rammed into a road market in Gboko Local Government Area of Benue State.
The accident occurred around 7 pm on Tuesday, May 31, when the driver of the vehicle lost control due to brake failure, in front of Temperance hotel in Akaajime area of Gboko.
According to an eyewitness, the vehicle was coming from Gboko town to Mkar when the incident happened.
"Five people were killed on the spot, and 16 people were injured and receiving treatment at private hospitals in Gboko. There are 12 injured people at St. Joseph and four others at Atuna hospitals in Gboko receiving treatment." the witness explained.
Some of the victims have been identified as Manasseh Shima Buty Ukor, Terseer Pever, and Iember Wan Ipav.
Chairman of Gboko local government, James Kachina who confirmed the incident on Wednesday said 16 people were injured.
The council boss, accompanied by the leader of the Gboko legislative house and Peters Maaki, visited Atuna and St John’s hospitals in Gboko where the injured victims are receiving treatment.
