Furfuri and two of his abducted family members, Zulaihat and Zainab
Twenty three persons including two wives and three children of a former Accountant-General in the state, Abubakar Bello Furfuri have been abducted by bandits who invaded Furfuri town in Bungundu Local Government Area of Zamfara State.
It was gathered that the gunmen stormed the community which is 7 km away from Gusau, in the late hours of Sunday, June 5 and whisked away the victims.
A source from Furfuri town identified as Mallam Sani, confirmed the incident to Nigerian Tribune.
"In one of the houses they invaded, they whisked away many people,” Sani said.
However, Sani said military operatives were deployed to the town immediately.
"Two Hilux vans loaded with soldiers were deployed in the village but before they arrived, the bandits had left,” the source said.
Spokesperson of the Zamfara State Police Command, SP Shehu Mohammed, who also confirmed the incident to Nigerian Tribune, said that police operatives had been deployed to rescue the victims.
The PPRO said as a result of intensified efforts by security operatives, some of the kidnapped victims were rescued immediately while efforts were on to rescue the rest.
