Four police officers have been brutally killed by a gunboat in Bayelsa State.
The gunboat in the early hours of Wednesday crushed the four policemen on patrol duty and officials of an oil surveillance company to death at Okumugbene and Odewari River close to Korokorosei junction in Bayelsa State.
According to reports, a younger brother to the former gubernatorial candidate of the All Progressives Congress (APC), in the state, David Lyon, identified as Odi Lyon, was among the deceased, while another aide to Lyon identified as Ogbojimo was lucky to have survived the unfortunate incident.
Odi Lyon was said to be the operations Manager of the Darlon Oil Surveillance company in the Southern Ijaw community of Olugbobiri.
It was gathered that the boat was heading towards Korokorosei when the incident happened.
SaharaReporters learnt that the corpse of one of the policemen had been recovered while the three riot policemen were still missing.
The recovered policeman was able to swim to the shore but died before he could get to the clinic at Olugbobiri.
The boat conveying the four mobile policemen, the younger brother of David Lyon, a governor’s aide with a 200 horsepower engine was said to have stopped for yet-to-be-ascertained reasons when the gunboat attacked them.
The Bayelsa State Police Public Relations Officer, Asinim Butswat, confirmed the incident but did not give any further details on it.
