Sam Amadi, the Director, Abuja School of Social and Political Thought has reacted to the confrontation between the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Nyesom Wike and a Nigerian military officer.
According to him, Wike cannot override the instruction given to a soldier because he does not possess the power of the Commander-in-Chief.
He stated this while reacting to the clash between the minister and some soldiers in Abuja over access to a land.
Recall that a heated confrontation broke out on Tuesday after soldiers prevented Wike and his entourage from accessing a parcel of land in the Gaduwa district
Speaking on the development during an interview with Arise News, Amadi asserted that the young naval officer who stood his ground against Wike did nothing wrong.
According to him, “The statement by the Defence Minister is right that officers on lawful assignments need protection of the state.
“I think it was needless for the FCT Minister to go there with people to get the officers out. And when the deed had been done, he would have reported back to the Inspector-General of Police because it is the police that enforce the law in Nigeria.
“The officer acted in accordance with standard military procedure. He was authorised to be there and protect the location, and the minister cannot override the instruction given to the soldier.”
