Kaffy Shafau, the popular Nigerian dancer, has explained why her marriage failed, revealing that she went into it without fully understanding what it truly entails.

Kaffy, who ended her marriage to Joseph Ameh in January 2022, spoke about her experience during a conversation with media personality, Chude Jideonwo.

She explained that many people, including herself, go into marriage without being fully prepared for the responsibilities and challenges that come with it.

She said the kind of guidance people receive from their parents is often not enough to help them understand marriage.

According to her, marriage should be treated like something that requires proper learning and training, rather than something people enter into without deep preparation.

The mother of two also raised concerns about how easy it is to get married compared to other life processes.

She pointed out that while some things require strict testing and preparation, marriage is often approached without serious checks, even though it plays a major role in shaping society.

She said: “I was not educated enough for marriage and a lot of us aren’t, our parents are not preparing us enough, living through their eyes is not enough education about marriage.

“It is a special course that needs to be taken, we can’t have a society that issues you marriage certificate easier than drivers license like it’s harder to get the drivers license but it’s much easier to get a marriage certificate but it’s inside this home that all the ills of the society are being built.

“There’s a lot of mental health situations and assessments that needs to go on.Its not only counselling that they should do. They should do mental evaluation of the couple.

“It should be a mandatory requirement that drug test, mental evaluation, couples therapy, all of these things, there need to be a one year programme of human behavioural sciences that they need to go before two people come and damage another human being that they would bring to life”.
