Former vice president Atiku Abubakar, former African Democratic Congress (ADC) national chairman David Mark, and former Labour Party (LP) presidential candidate Peter Obi in the 2023 election organized a rally in Abuja on Wednesday under the name "Occupy INEC."
The demonstrators included former senator Dino Melaye, former Osun state governor Rauf Aregbesola, former Kano governor Rabiu Kwankwaso, and former transportation minister Rotimi Amaechi.
Leaders of the ADC organized the rally in opposition to what they called the Independent National Electoral Commission's (INEC) "partisanship."
In a post on X, Atiku declared, "I, along with other ADC leaders, am peacefully protesting against the electoral umpire's partisanship. Our patriotic position is intended to protect our democracy and stop a dictatorship from taking power."
At the location, demonstrators held signs and banners that said, "Tinubu, why are you afraid?" and frequently screamed "Ojoro.""Tinubu, let democracy breathe," and "Judges must give justice."
The demonstration follows INEC's de-recognition of the ADC leadership as a result of an appeal court ruling.
