Former Ondo State Governor Olusegun Mimiko has formally joined the All Progressives Congress (APC), making his defection official on Thursday at the party's secretariat in Ondo City, where he was warmly received by the state chairman, Kolawole Babatunde, in the presence of party leaders and supporters.
Mimiko, who holds the distinction of being the first governor in Ondo State's history to complete two full terms in office, had been widely expected to make the move following the mass defection of many of his loyalists to the APC in 2025 a development that was largely interpreted at the time as a deliberate build-up to his own eventual switch to the ruling party.
His arrival in the APC is seen as a significant political development in Ondo State, further consolidating the ruling party's influence in the South-West region ahead of the 2027 general elections.
