A short video lasting just 38 seconds has gone viral online, showing a distressed Nigerian woman passionately calling out to United States President Donald Trump, pleading with him to intervene and rescue Nigeria from its current troubles.
In the clip, the woman cries out, urging Trump not to sleep but to come to Nigeria's aid, a raw expression of despair against the backdrop of worsening insecurity, persistent bandit violence, and deepening economic hardship under President Bola Tinubu's administration.
Nigeria has been grappling with a range of serious challenges, including recurring clashes that have displaced entire communities, inflation exceeding 30 percent, and steadily rising food prices that have pushed many households to the brink.
In response, the Tinubu administration has declared states of emergency in some affected areas and launched various intervention programmes, including cash transfers and the establishment of community security outfits.
The video has drawn a wide range of reactions from viewers. Many expressed genuine empathy for the woman, moved by the rawness of her anguish and what it reflects about the feelings of ordinary Nigerians.
Others, however, were more critical, pointing out that it is Tinubu, not a foreign leader, who holds responsibility for governing Nigeria, and questioned the logic of appealing to an outside figure for domestic relief.
