Four people have lost their lives after a Golf Wagon car crashed into Tomas Dam in the Danbatta Local Government Area of Kano State on Tuesday night.

The Kano State Fire Service confirmed the tragedy through a statement released on Wednesday by its spokesperson, ACFO Saminu Abdullahi.

The incident took place at approximately 7:10pm, when the Danbatta Fire Service Division was alerted by a local resident named Suleman.

The vehicle, whose registration plate could not be identified, was headed from Kano toward Roni in Jigawa State at the time of the crash.

A total of ten people were in the vehicle when the accident happened.

Emergency responders from the Danbatta Fire Station arrived quickly and managed to pull all the occupants out of the dam.

However, four of them were already unconscious upon rescue and were subsequently pronounced dead at the scene.

Two of the deceased were named as Shamsiya Miko, estimated to be 35 years old, and Fatima Danlami, estimated to be 40 years old.

The identities of the remaining two victims had not yet been established at the time of reporting.

All those involved were transported to Danbatta General Hospital for treatment and further procedures.

Early investigations suggest the crash was triggered by a tyre blowout while the vehicle was in motion.

The Director of the Kano State Fire Service, Sani Anas, appealed to drivers to be more careful on the roads, particularly along highways and near bodies of water.

He also urged the relevant government agencies to carry out urgent repairs on the Tomas Dam embankment to reduce the risk of similar incidents in the future.

In a separate development, two people were killed on Monday in a collision between a trailer and a Toyota Corolla in the Kwang community, Jos South LGA, Plateau State, with five persons involved in that crash.
