The Labour Party has announced a change in the dates of its primaries, which were previously scheduled for May 27 and May 29, 2026.

All primaries covering the offices of President, Governor, Senate, House of Representatives, and State Houses of Assembly will now hold on the same day, Saturday, May 30, 2026.

In a statement signed by the party's National Publicity Secretary, Ken Eluma Asogwa, the party explained that the rescheduling became necessary due to conflicts with two significant national events.

The original date of May 27 falls on the Eid el-Kabir celebration, while May 29 marks the third anniversary of the inauguration of elected public office holders across the country.

The party stated that given the religious importance of the Sallah celebration and the national significance of the May 29 anniversary.

It considered it appropriate to adjust its schedule so that members, aspirants, supporters and Niagerians at large could fully observe both occasions.

The Labour Party expressed regret over any inconvenience the change may cause to aspirants, stakeholders and supporters, while appreciating their understanding and cooperation.
