Lagos School Thrown Into Chaos After Bandit Prank Sparks Mass Panic

Panic erupted at a Lagos school complex after a routine awareness programme took a dramatic turn when a teacher’s attempt to dramatise a lesson on insecurity backfired badly.

Confusion erupted at a Lagos school on Wednesday morning after what turned out to be a prank over an alleged b@ndit att@ck on students and teachers.

According to reports, it began as a routine Wednesday at Ijaiye Ojokoro Junior College on Tigbetigbe Street, Ojokoro a day observed as National Awareness Day across all schools in Lagos State.

At around 9am, the topic for the day's awareness programme was b@ndiry. To make the presentation more realistic and engaging, one of the teachers reportedly decided to dress as a b@ndit to illustrate to students what such criminals look like.

However, as the teacher stepped out of his vehicle and approached the assembly ground, pandemonium broke out. Students, believing he was a real b@ndit, immediately fled in fear.

The commotion quickly spread to students in the other three schools within the same complex, who upon hearing shouts of "B@ndits! B@ndits!" joined in the stampede.

Several teachers also ran for safety, and the entire school complex as well as adjoining streets were thrown into chaos.

Alarmed parents rushed to the schools to pick up their children, believing an actual att@ck was underway.

"I was on my early morning walk when I noticed a group of students running frantically.

When I asked what had happened, they told me that b@ndits had invaded their school and were killing people," an eyewitness recounted, adding that he proceeded to the school to verify the situation.

On arrival, he said he met a principal who, preferring anonymity, explained that the panic had been triggered by a teacher's attempt to dramatise the awareness topic on b@ndiry.

A resident living close to the school, Joshua Ekong, also confirmed that the incident caused widespread panic and confusion in the surrounding area.
