Safron Samuel Alaket, the District Head of Gwande in Bokkos Local Council of Plateau State, was allegedly killed by several unidentified gunmen in an ambush along the Sha District axis that borders the Daffo community.

According to local sources, the incident happened on Tuesday at around 7:30 p.m. as the traditional ruler was making his way back from the well-known Tuesday Market in Daffo.

Before going back to Gwande, he had previously attended a customary council meeting in Bokkos.

Residents said that the attackers attacked the traditional ruler's car close to the border between the Daffo village and the Sha District.

He was reportedly hurt during the assault and was taken right away to a local clinic for emergency care, but he did not make it out alive.

Mr. Aten Pukat, a community member who confirmed the incident, said that the traditional ruler's passing was a terrible loss for the people of Gwande and the Bokkos region as a whole.

Pukat stated that the Bokkos Traditional Council and locals were in grief following the attack, pointing out that the district chief was well-liked for his contributions to fostering harmony and communal growth.

He proceeded by saying that in the wake of the unfortunate event, traditional institutions, community leaders, and sympathizers had continued to send condolences.

As at the time of publication, Alfred Alabo, the Plateau Police Command's spokesperson, could not be contacted for confirmation.
