Actor Uzor Arukwe has paid tribute to his late colleague Alex Ekubo, breaking his earlier silence to explain why he had not publicly addressed Ekubo's death sooner.

The renowned actor passed away on May 11, 2026, following a battle with metastatic kidney cancer.

In a lengthy Instagram post, Arukwe explained that his quietness was not indifference, but a reflection of how deeply the news affected him, noting that some losses settle quietly rather than demanding an immediate public response, often leaving one hoping for news of a mistake rather than accepting the reality of the loss.

He recalled first meeting Ekubo on the set of Dabby Chimere, describing him from the very beginning as warm, accommodating, and exactly the kind of genuine, down-to-earth gentleman many had described him to be.

Arukwe said hearing tributes and stories from those who knew Ekubo even more closely left him humbled, reinforcing his belief that people are ultimately remembered not for their talent or accomplishments, but for their kindness, how they treated others, and the spirit they carried through life.

He explained that his initial silence was simply his own way of grieving, noting that not every farewell needs to be expressed publicly, as some are instead carried through prayer, memory, or quiet reflection in the heart.

Arukwe closed his tribute with deeply personal words of gratitude in Igbo, thanking Ekubo for his warmth and grace, and wishing him peace as he bid him farewell, expressing hope of meeting again one day.
