Adeleke Warns NYSC Members Against Lawlessness Ahead of Election

Osun State Governor Ademola Adeleke has urged National Youth Service Corps members deployed to the state to uphold the law, embrace peaceful coexistence, and contribute positively to national development.

The governor, represented by the Commissioner for Youth Affairs, delivered this charge at the swearing-in and official opening ceremony of the 2026 Batch 'B' Stream II Orientation Course held at the NYSC Permanent Orientation Camp in Ede.

The governor encouraged corps members to remain committed to the National Pledge and Oath of Allegiance administered during the ceremony, emphasising the importance of resolving grievances through lawful and constitutional means.

He cautioned against taking the law into their own hands and urged them to avoid conduct that might mislead younger Nigerians who regard them as role models.

Adeleke further encouraged corps members to respect ethnic, cultural, and other differences among themselves while fostering relationships grounded in unity, tolerance, and mutual respect, urging them to build friendships that celebrate their differences while discovering commonalities.

He assured corps members that his administration would continue supporting the NYSC scheme within the state, particularly regarding their welfare and safety throughout their service year, describing Osun as a peaceful state whose residents are accommodating and peace-loving.

Meanwhile, the NYSC Osun State Coordinator disclosed that 3,000 corps members had registered for the orientation programme as of midnight Thursday, including corps members previously displaced from Lagos State.

The coordinator explained that the three-week orientation course was designed to prepare corps members for national service challenges through physical fitness activities, lectures, social and sporting activities, and the Skills Acquisition and Entrepreneurship Development programme.

He additionally urged corps members to maintain discipline, cleanliness, and patriotism, while drawing attention to the forthcoming Osun governorship election, during which some corps members would serve as ad hoc personnel for the Independent National Electoral Commission.

He noted that his team had visited all 27 local government areas where corps members are currently deployed to sensitise them regarding their electoral duties and responsibilities in ensuring a free, fair, and credible election process, with the sensitisation exercise involving electoral officials and various security agencies.

He requested that corps members join in prayers for the safety and peaceful conduct of the electoral exercise across the state, confirming that sensitisation on electoral responsibilities had already been conducted statewide.
