The Niger State Police Command reports that nine deceased had been discovered along the Wawa-Lumma route in the state's Borgu Local Government Area.

Bandits were thot to have killed the victims while they were traveling along the route.

Police and military officers were sent to the area after learning about the dead on Tuesday, Wasiu Abiodun, the command's spokesperson, told the News Agency of Nigeria on Wednesday in Minna.

He stated that in order to secure the area and stop other attacks, the security teams recovered the dead and stepped up clearance operations.

"The bodies were recovered, and a clearance operation was intensified to secure the area after police and military tactical teams were mobilized to the scene," he stated.

Days prior, 308 individuals who had been kidnaped in separate assaults in the states of Kwara and Niger were rescued by security services.

Of the victims who were saved, 145 were taken in a different incident in Niger State, while 163 were kidnaped from Woro Community in Kaiama Local Government Area of Kwara State.

In a coordinated, intelligence-led operation involving the National Counter-Terrorism Center, the Armed Forces, the Department of State Services, and the Nigeria Police Force, the victims were saved from the Kainji Lake National Park woodland in the New Bussa Local Government Area of Niger State.
