Wike Sets Abuja for Major Infrastructure Push Despite Being Abroad

Federal Capital Territory (FCT) Minister Nyesom Wike has been monitoring developments in Abuja despite spending some time overseas to relax.

According to reports, the Minister is keeping up with authorities and developments, especially those related to ongoing projects and getting ready to commission additional infrastructure projects.

Wike's brief departure from Abuja, according to Lere Olayinka, Senior Special Assistant to the Minister on Public Communications and Social Media, was a chance for him to relax and rejuvenate rather than a disengagement from his duties.

Olayinka said in a statement on Friday that the Minister was already getting ready to commission over ten significant projects that are slated for December 2026 and January 2027.

He claims that the projects, which are dispersed around the FCT, are a part of Wike's plan to enhance connectivity, fortify infrastructure, and expand development to satellite towns and developing districts.

Instead, Olayinka stated, "he has kept up with his team and developments within the FCT, particularly regarding the progress of ongoing projects and preparations for new ones."

Following months of work on the construction and renovation of roads, bridges, public buildings, water infrastructure, and other amenities around the Federal Capital Territory, Wike is taking a break.

The Minister has always argued that the development of infrastructure should not be restricted to Abuja's city center, emphasizing that citizens of satellite towns and developing villages should also have access to high-quality governance and infrastructure.

According to Olayinka, the administration's infrastructure initiative would enter a new phase with the scheduled commissioning of over ten projects.

Since Wike's appointment as FCT Minister, the projects are anticipated to expand or expedite the roads and other public infrastructure.

Additionally, Wike has argued that initiatives that directly affect citizens should be used to gage government effectiveness rather than pledges and statements of policy.

As the FCT gets ready for another round of commissioning, Olayinka claims that the Minister is still committed to making that contractors fulfilll deadlines and projects are completed in accordance with specifications.

It is anticipated that Wike will return to Abuja with a fresh perspective on the upcoming stage of the region's infrastructure development initiative.
