Suspected thugs att@cked Governor Ademola Adeleke's convoy on Wednesday shortly after he left the Ataoja's palace in Osogbo.
His security team and the assailants exchanged gunfire for about 12 to 15 minutes.
Adeleke had arrived at the palace around 3:15 p.m. in a convoy of about 20 vehicles, coming straight from the election office where he'd received his Certificate of Return after winning re-election.
He presented the certificate to the monarch and they met privately.
As the meeting was ending and the governor was leaving through a side exit, the sh00ting began.
Adeleke was already in his vehicle when the gunfire started.
An unregistered passenger van came through an area called Ita Olokan and the attackers opened fire on the palace.
Security personnel fired back, and the gunfight lasted roughly 12 to 15 minutes before the attacker's vehicle fled.
Traders nearby said the assailants seemed to have known the governor was coming and were waiting for him.
They damaged the palace gates and even engaged the governor's convoy near a central mosque before disappearing toward the Osogbo-Ilesa Road.
The sh00ting caused panic. Traders and residents abandoned their shops and businesses to get away from the violence.
Sporadic gunshots continued even after the main group of attackers fled.
An official confirmed the att@ck and said the governor's security repelled the assailants without anyone being h@rmed.
