4 Family Members Killed as Three-Storey Building Collapses in Ilorin

A three-storey building collapsed in Ilorin, killing four members of the same family who were trapped inside.

Eight family members were in the building when it came down on Tuesday at a residential address in the Popo Giwa area.

Four were pulled out alive, but four others died.

Emergency workers spent hours digging through the rubble to search for survivors.

The state governor, AbdulRahman AbdulRazaq, visited the injured survivors in hospital to check on their condition.

He said his government is providing medical care and support to help them recover.

He also praised the emergency responders and volunteers who worked at the scene, calling their efforts a sign of community solidarity in times of need.

The governor used the tragedy to highlight the importance of construction safety.

He said the state is committed to enforcing building standards and asked residents to work with authorities on safety matters.

He called for people to take construction protocols seriously.

The senator for Kwara Central also mourned the victims and extended condolences to their families. 

He stressed the need for stricter compliance with building regulations by property owners and developers.

He urged residents to report any signs of structural damage before they become emergencies.

The Speaker of the state assembly offered his sympathies to the grieving families and commended the swift response from rescue teams.

He prayed for the quick recovery of those injured in the collapse.
