Osborn Umahi, the 28-year-old son of the Works Minister David Umahi, has taken office as chairman of Ohaozara Local Government Area in Ebonyi State.

He was sworn in on Tuesday after winning the local government election held on August 22 as an APC candidate.

The governor conducted the swearing-in ceremony, with Osborn's father and other political leaders present.

The younger Umahi promised during his campaign to focus on building roads and other infrastructure, helping young people find jobs, supporting businesses and providing better basic services to residents.

He also said he would not take his salary and allowances, choosing instead to serve the community.

Osborn is an engineer and businessman who studied civil engineering in England and got a master's degree in finance and investment management from Scotland.

His father was Ebonyi governor before becoming the federal works minister.

The APC swept all 13 chairmanship positions in the Ebonyi local government elections, giving Osborn's party complete control at that level of government.

He now starts his tenure with the promises he made during campaigning, centred on grassroots development and better public services.
