Delta Assembly Sends Strong Warning Ahead of 2027 Elections

Delta State lawmakers have called for a different kind of political battle as the 2027 elections approach, urging politicians to focus on what they can offer voters rather than division and violence.

Delta State lawmakers have warned politicians to keep the 2027 election campaign focused on ideas and competence, not bitterness and violence.

The House Speaker told members that elections should be about presenting programmes and candidates who can improve people's lives, not about personal attacks or division.

Presidential and National Assembly campaigns started on August 19, with governorship and state House races beginning September 9.

The speaker urged parties, candidates and supporters to conduct themselves responsibly throughout the process.

Elections should never be treated as do-or-die affairs, he said.

Instead, campaigns should centre on ideas, programmes, competence, character and service.

The state is expanding its House constituencies from 29 to 38, creating nine new seats.

This development will give more communities direct representation and strengthen grassroots participation in the legislative process.

The speaker described it as historic for Delta.

With lawmakers returning from recess, the speaker directed them to work with renewed focus and push pending Bills, Motions and Petitions through quickly.

He reminded committee leaders to apply what they learned from leadership training at London Business School to their work.

The speaker praised the state government for holding an economic summit during the recess that showcased investment opportunities and connected Delta with investors.

He assured investors that the assembly would provide legislative support to create favourable conditions for business and growth.

He also congratulated the governor and people of Delta on the state's 35th anniversary.
