Kano Gov Builds Powerful Emergency Centre to Tackle Crises Faster

Kano State Government has awarded a substantial contract to construct an Emergency Operation Centre at the Government House, designed to streamline and coordinate all emergency response activities across the state while enabling effective information management during crises.

The State Emergency Management Agency's Executive Secretary, Isyaku Kubarachi, disclosed that construction has already begun.

Once completed, the centre will address the complex challenges involved in collecting, gathering and analysing data before authorities make decisions aimed at protecting life and property.

The facility will bring together various agencies and groups under one unified command structure during emergencies, eliminating fragmented responses and ensuring coordinated action.

The centre will be only the second of its kind in Nigeria, following a similar facility in Lagos State.

When operational, it will serve as a command hub that collects and analyses information from across the state's 44 local government areas, providing a comprehensive picture of what happens during emergencies.

This capability will enable authorities to track situations, deploy supplies, equipment and personnel to affected areas without delay, and send regular situation reports directly to the governor for immediate decision-making, eliminating the need for officials to physically visit disaster sites.

Kubarachi explained that the facility will be equipped with advanced technology to support strategic coordination, resource management and information handling during major disasters or critical crises.

The state plans to recruit and train specialised personnel to operate the centre.

Looking ahead, the Kano State Government intends to establish similar emergency operation centres in each of the state's three senatorial zones, creating a network that ensures comprehensive emergency response capacity across all regions.
