Peter Obi, running for president on the Nigeria Democratic Congress ticket, has said his rival Seyi Makinde is qualified to lead Nigeria.
Obi spoke at the launch of Makinde's presidential campaign office in Abuja on Monday ahead of the 2027 elections.
He called Makinde his dear brother and said yes, he is qualified to be president.
Obi urged Nigerians to make their own choice freely and asked opposition politicians to work together to fix the country's problems.
Obi said whoever wins through a fair and credible election should get support from other political leaders.
He stressed that this is not about desperation but about letting Nigerians choose who they want.
He called for all politicians to come together to rescue the country, saying the people are hungry and poor and things can't stay as they are.
He also pushed back against the politics of quarrel and confrontation.
Instead of fighting each other, he said politicians should focus their energy on feeding people and lifting them out of poverty.
Obi wants a Nigeria where anyone can succeed based on their talents and hard work, not on who they know or their family connections.
The 2027 presidential race includes several major candidates besides Obi and Makinde Atiku Abubakar of the African Democratic Congress and President Bola Tinubu of the ruling APC are also in the race.
“We have a candidate who is contesting for president, Seyi Makinde. Is he qualified to be president? Yes, he is qualified. What we are doing today is to show you that, for us, it’s not about desperation. We want the people of Nigeria to make their choice.”
