Bandit Shooting Leaves Sokoto Farmer Unable to Walk or Afford Treatment

A 30-year-old man shot during a b@ndit @tt@ck on Girkau community in Kebbe Local Government Area of Sokoto State is lying in hospital unable to pay for medical scans needed to treat his injuries.

Jamilu Abubakar was sh0t in the back while returning from his farmland where he had gone to harvest millet.

Jamilu Abubakar has lost all feeling from his chest down to his legs since the sh00ting.

Doctors say he needs a Magnetic Resonance Imaging and Computed Tomography scan costing 190,000 naira to determine how serious the injury is, but his family cannot afford it.

Jamilu Abubakar said even if someone pierced him with a sharp object he would not feel it.

Jamilu Abubakar explained that when he saw the armed men approaching, he tried to run but they sh0t him in the back.

He lay on the ground until the gunmen left.

His father and other people who came out of hiding rushed him to Usman Danfodiyo University Teaching Hospital.

Jamilu Abubakar said his father is crippled and begs for money to feed the family.

He appealed to well-meaning Nigerians to help him pay for his treatment.

Five people were k!lled in the @tt@ck.

Those who d!ed were Abubakar Zagu, known as Dogon Attah; Abubakar Aliyu; Babangida Chali; and Adamu Dan Gashuwa Dukura.

Four others were injured: Dahru Dantunba, Jamilu Madugu, Sani Danbuga who is the community secretary, and Basiru Dansalah.

A recent military operation in the area has given residents new hope.

Troops found weapons, ammunition and motorcycles in the forests where the b@ndits hide.

Residents said the military presence has made them feel safer and shown that the criminals can be pushed back.

However, residents asked the military not to leave the area quickly, saying a continued presence is needed to stop the b@ndits from regrouping and returning to attack the communities again.
