Benue Govt Challenges Obi to Name Aide Behind Alleged Convoy Blockade

The Benue State Government has challenged the Nigeria Democratic Congress and its presidential candidate Peter Obi to name the government official they accused of blocking Obi's convoy.

Chief Press Secretary to Governor Hyacinth Alia, Tersoo Kula, also asked for evidence to support their allegation during a television appearance on Wednesday.

Tersoo Kula said the state government did not know about the incident until photos appeared online showing the alleged blockade.

Tersoo Kula said the governor has been accused without proof.

Tersoo Kula challenged NDC and Obi to name the aide they mentioned. He said if there is evidence that the person directed the blockade, police should arrest him.

He stressed these are straightforward tasks that NDC should be able to do if they have the facts.

Tersoo Kula said if the aide is identified and evidence shows his involvement, authorities should take action against him.

However, the government denied knowing anything about stopping Obi's convoy.

On insecurity in Benue State, Tersoo Kula acknowledged the security challenges residents face but said the problem is not unique to the state.

He said other states face similar issues but that is no excuse for the government to accept the situation.

He said Governor Hyacinth Alia is working hard to reduce insecurity to the lowest level possible.

Tersoo Kula said the state now has what could be described as relative peace and the government remains committed to improving security further.
