Odii Promises to Stop Child Labour in Ebonyi

A political candidate named Dr Ifeanyi Odii who wants to be governor of Ebonyi State said he would stop children from being sent away to work if he wins the 2027 election.

He said on Tuesday that he would tackle the problem of children doing domestic work, selling things on the street and other forms of child labor.

Odii said poverty and unemployment are forcing families to send their children away from home to work as housemaids or to sell things on the streets.

His plan would create training centers across Ebonyi State to teach young people practical skills that could help them get jobs.

The training centers would teach skills like carpentry, tailoring, animal rearing, fishing and other vocational work.

He said the centers would cover all 13 local government areas in Ebonyi State.

Each center would be big enough to train about 3,000 people.

This means the state could train about 39,000 young people.

Odii said education is also very important.

He promised to give scholarships to children and improve schools so that children can stay in school instead of working.

He said his government would also spend money on farming, healthcare and creating jobs to help reduce poverty in families.

He said if families have good jobs and money at home, they will not need to send their children away to work.

He promised to end the practice of children working as housemaids and selling things on the streets in Ebonyi State.

He said Ebonyi State has farming land and minerals that could be developed to create jobs and help families earn more money.
