The Nigeria Customs Service has opened a fresh complaints window for people who were screened out of its recent recruitment.

This comes after candidates who made the shortlist said they were later denied admission to the training college.

Spokesperson Abdullahi Maiwada announced this in a statement on Monday in Abuja.

The recruitment ended in September at the Training and Doctrine Command in Gwagwalada.

After meeting some unhappy applicants, Comptroller General Bashir Adeniyi ordered a case by case review of their complaints.

Maiwada said being on the final shortlist does not guarantee a place in the service.

Candidates went through document checks, fitness and endurance tests, medical exams, age checks and drug screening.

Among 397 applicants, problems were found with substance abuse, fitness, medical records, age and documents.

Some others were rejected for irregularities in the selection process.

Anyone who feels treated unfairly should send their details and complaints formally.

Those who use the window will go through fresh screening.

If fraud or other crimes are found, the people involved will face prosecution.

The service received 573,680 applications for 3,852 positions.

It selected 1,275 people for the Superintendent cadre, 367 for the Inspectorate cadre and 2,210 for the Customs Assistant cadre.
