The Nigeria Football Federation (NFF) has been urged to avoid appointing any Nigerian ex-internationals as Super Eagles Coach.

The Nigeria Football Federation (NFF) has been advised to avoid appointing any Nigerian ex-internationals as Super Eagles Coach.

Former Chairman of the House of Representatives Committee on Sports, Godfrey Gaiya, while responding to the disengagement of Keshi said that the federation should look beyond the shores of this country for his replacement, stating that Nigerian coaches lack technical know-how to develop players.

He said that Nigerian coaches have consistently failed in their quest to develop the game, relying instead on poaching players of Nigerian descent, and urged the federation to hire a sound technical adviser.

“I was not surprised over Keshi’s sack. I think that it was long overdue. NFF has no reason to renew Keshi’s contract in the first place.

“Don’t forget that when my committee felt that the NFF was foot-dragging and not bold to tell Keshi to go, we volunteered to help them to tell Keshi to go. It was the belief of all Nigerians that he was not the best and cannot be the best we have in this country.

“Having failed to qualify for the last Africa Cup of Nations, we felt that what happened to bad coaches should happen to Keshi because a coach is as good as his last match. It is good that he is gone now and I can tell you that Nigerians are happy and we in the sporting world are also happy.

“It is time the NFF went all out to give Nigerians good coach. It is not time for them to go back to ex-international just to please them", Gaiya said
