The PDP national vice chairman for the South-South, Dr. Cairo Ojugboh has joined a long list of other politicians to blame the loss of the party in the last presidential elections on former president Goodluck Jonathan's refusal to allow power return to the North.

Ojugboh revealed to journalists yesterday that there was an agreement by the 34 founders of the PDP to rotate power between the South and the North for 8 years, Vanguard reports.

According to him, Goodluck Jonathan broke the agreement by succumbing to pressure from some governors, party leaders and stakeholders that he should re-contest the 2015 presidential election instead of allowing the North to take charfe.

He said the PDP has learnt from the defeat and will ensure that the party will henceforth respect its constitution.

He said the North rejected Jonathan and voted President Muhammadu Buhari, their son, because Jonathan went contrary to the initial agreement that he would govern for only four years and return power to the North.

He said:  “So PDP had the first shot, everybody cooperated, Obasanjo became president. After eight years, it was the turn of the North to become president then problem started.

“Some people started toying with the idea of third term. PDP said no, PDP members of the National Assembly and other parties said no it will not work; wonderful. The PDP had to produce a candidate and that is how Yar’adua came.

“Unfortunately, Yar’adua did not survive so the North said look this presidency is our own, we have to utilise our allotted eight years and they were right".

Meanwhile, the PDP has accused the APC and the Nigerian police of working together to destabilise PDP-controlled states, especially Rivers.
