When the talks of gay marriage was brought up, President Buhari did not hesitate to express his objection of the issue, a media aide of the president has revealed.
As initially speculated, the issue of gay marriage came up during President Buhari's sojourn in the United States, but the subject did not gain a positive reception.
According to the president's media aide, Femi Adesina, the President boldy rejected the notion of gay marriage in Nigeria.
“The issue of gay marriage came up here yesterday. PMB was point blank. Sodomy is against the law in Nigeria, and abhorrent to our culture,” Adesina said via Twitter on Wednesday, July 22, 2015.
US Assistant Secretary of State for African Affairs, Linda Thomas-Greenfield had earlier said during a live-web chat with journalists on July 13 that the country (US) would compel Nigeria to recognize same sex unions.
President Buhari is in the US for a four-day official trip and met with President Barack Obama on Tuesday, July 21.
