40 Year Old Man Gets Double Sentence For Attempting to Escape Court Arraignment

The Lagos State Police Command arraigned a man, Dayo Abdullahi, before an Ogudu Magistrate Court for allegedly stealing a car battery and he reported tried to escape after being handed a one year sentence.

According to the Punch Metro, a 40-Year old man, Dayo Abdullahi who was arraigned before an Ogudu Magistrate’s Court in Lagos for the theft of a car battery valued at N14,000 had his jail term doubled following his attempt to escape from the court after being sentenced. He allegedly stole the car battery belonging to one  Musa Sanud at the Ojota area of Lagos on the 21st of July, 2015 at 6:30am on that fateful day.
 
The accused initially remained calm and pleaded guilty to the allegations of theft levelled against him before the magistrate, Mrs. O. Sule-Amzat. He was sentenced to a jail term of one year for his crime. In a dramtic twist, he reportedly attempted to escape from the court by breaking through the ceiling of the room he was kept while his inprisonment papers were being prepared.
 
He was apprehended and re-arraigned before the magistrate. The charges levelled against him read:
 
“That you, Dayo Abdullahi, of no fixed address on July 21, 2015, at about 2.40pm, at Ogudu Magistrate’s Court, Ogudu, in the Ogudu Magisterial District, being a convict and while in the Ogudu court cell, did attempt to commit felony to wit; escape from lawful custody, by climbing the court ceiling and breaking it and thereby commited an offence punishable under Section 404 of the Criminal Law of Lagos State, 2011”.
 
He pleaded guilty once more and a year was added to his jail term making two years.
