The Joint National Association of Persons with Disabilities (JONAPWD) on Tuesday appealed to President Muhammadu Buhari to consider their members for cabinet appointment.
Physically challenged individuals have appealed to President Muhammadu Buhari to give them political appointments. They recently made their voice heard through their association named Joint National Association of Persons with Disabilities (JONAPWD) on Tuesday, 18th of August.
A statement by the National Secretary of the association, Mr. Dauda Sale during a press conference in Lafia also urged the government to be fair in it's appointments by carrying them along. According to Sale, it was necessary to give the physically challenged persons a sense of belonging in Nigeria. The disabled have been participating in electoral process but always end up being secluded from governance at the end of elections.
Sale said, “If the physically challenged persons are given government positions, it would go a long way to reduce the hardship and discrimination they often face in the society.
“Our members have been neglected over the years at the federal level in the area of education and healthcare,’’
He advocated the level of intelligence of their members who could help in bringing the desired change in Nigeria.
Sale also called on the Federal Government to initiate programmes that would help the physically challenged to become self-reliant instead of begging for arms to survive.
