Double Commonwealth champion, Blessing Okagbare has hit back at critics kicking her while she is down. Okagbare's poor performance at the 100m final race, IAAF World Championships ongoing in Beijing, China where she sadly finished last has attracted massive criticisms from the general public.

The athlete has summoned courage to stand her ground amidst the criticisms. Blessing Okagbare, has labelled her critics “insane” in a message that saw her appreciating her real fans for the support they have shown her.

The message was contained in a Facebook post made on Thursday, 26th of August where she reiterated her strong stand despite the hard times. The post reads:

“Hi everyone, I really want to thank and appreciate my family, friends and true fans for all the love, support, calls, messages and emails from you guys. You have all made the last/worst 3 days of my career the best ever. From the bottom of my heart, I am extremely grateful,”

She continued: “As for the snakes blowing the trumpet and wishing I have tested positive on drugs, keep wishing on your own downfall because, I am so more than what a(sic) foolish journalism, critics, haters and those who call me Warri instead of Nigeria when I don’t win, is made of.

“I am self-motivated, confident and work hard which I am extremely proud and I owe no one an explanation win or lose. Not everyone who opens their mouth to talk or write with a pen in the name of journalism, have their sanity intact and they know themselves,”

Meanwhile, the Athletics Federation of Nigeria, AFN, through its president, Solomon Ogba, appealed to sports journalists to always encourage athletes on national assignments instead of writing stories to castigate them and demoralize them.
