The police were shocked to find a teen with a 12-inch knife he used in attacking and stabbing an unknown person.

Jonathan Kaggwa

Jonathan Kaggwa, 18, stabbed a man three times in a vicious unprovoked attack in north London. Police were on a routine patrol in Tottenham on February 18 when they saw Kaggwa knife his victim then run away, reports Daily Mirror.

They chased him and when he was caught, they found him holding the huge blade, with another large kitchen knife hidden under his jacket. His 21-year-old victim was found bleeding heavily from serious stab wounds to his body. He was slipping in and out of consciousness and needed life-saving surgery in hopsital. After several days in hospital he was released - but he didn't want to press charges.

However police still felt able to charge Kaggwa with attempted murder. During the trial, Kaggwa claimed he had been in the wrong place at the wrong time.

He said he had seen the actual attacker run past and toss the knife towards him which he picked up, leading to him being wrongly arrested.

The jury did not believe him and he was found guilty.

Kaggwa, of Tiverton Road, London, was found guilty of attempted murder and two counts of possession of an offensive weapon at Snaresbrook Crown Court. He was sentenced to 15 years detention in a young offender’s institution on Friday. Detective Constable Stephen Bent from Haringey CID said: "This was an extremely violent attack in which Kaggwa stabbed a man several times.

"The injured man did not wish to assist with the investigation, however, there was enough evidence to proceed with a prosecution.

"I am pleased that this dangerous young man has been found guilty. We are determined to bring all offenders of violent assaults to justice."
