Boko Haram: Niger Republic Imposes State of Emergency on Region Hit By Boko Haram

Niger Republic has imposed curfew on the southeastern region of Diffa where 40 people were killed by Boko Haram.

The government of Niger Republic has imposed a 15-day state of emergency on the southeastern region of Diffa where 40 people were killed in a recent attack by Boko Haram.
 
According to a statement released by the government on Thursday, it said the curfew and restricting of movement became necessary to allow authorities beef up security in the area and safeguard people's lives. The government used this same measure in February.
 
A UN report shows that Diffa has at least 57 attacks since February where around 150,000 refugees seeking protection from Boko Haram attacks in Nigeria.
 
Niger has arrested at least 1,100 suspected members of Boko Haram this year. Other countries like Cameroon, Chad and Nigeria have face violent clashes with the group since its inception.
