ICPC Boss warns public holders to desist from corrupt practices or face the music.

Independent Corrupt Practices and Other Related Offences Commission (ICPC), Mr. Ekpo Nta, said political officer holders at the local government level across the country must desist from corrupt practices as the commission will soon beam its searchlight on them. 
 
He gave the warning on Thursday at the opening ceremony of a training programme on anti-corruption, ethics and integrity organized by the ICPC Anti-Corruption Academy in Abuja.
 
The programme was organised for chairmen, auditors-general and secretaries of Local Government Service Commissions in the country. He said the programme was aimed at enlightening political office holders on local government administration, noting that the local government is one of the most corrupt organ of government. He stressed the commission's willingness to curb the menace and win the fight against corruption in line with the President's stance on the matter.
 
“The idea is to prepare the politicians against falling into traps set by civil servants who had been in the process for a very long time,” he said
 
Prof. Sola Akinrinade, the Provost, ICPC Anti-Corruption Academy, said that manifest corruption had been observed in the activities of local governments over the years. 
 
“We expect you to lay the ground rules and offer effective monitoring of happenings at the local government level,” 
 
“As chairmen of Local Government Service Commission, as Auditors-General of Local Government and Secretaries to the commission, you hold important positions with great responsibility". Akinrinade stated.
 
The interaction provided stakeholders opportunity to interact and create ideas for a new Nigeria free of corruption.
