Troops Must End Terrorism - COAS, Burutai

 

Lt. Gen. Tukur Burutai, Chief of Army Staff, has charged troops in the ongoing counter-insurgency offensive to double their efforts so as to put an end to terrorism in the country, noting that the presidential directive on the matter must be followed.

 

He gave the directive on Friday in Abuja through the acting Army spokesman, Col. Sani Usman, who said the coming days would be crucial to the operations aimed at eliminating insurgency from parts of the country.

 

Burutai said: “The next few days will be crucial to 'Operation Lafiya Dole’ and it is also crucial to our country Nigeria. Our sovereignty as a nation is threatened, the Nigerian Army and indeed the military as the symbol of our nationhood is being challenged. Our ability to stand and defeat the Boko Haram terrorists in the next few weeks will determine the future of our country,’’ 

 

He added that the military cannot afford to lose the fight against insurgency considering that its men are better trained and equipped to win the war. He also reiterated the President's support and urged the troops to be steadfast and courageous in the task of winning the war against insurgency.

 

Burutai affirmed his optimism that the war will be won soon.
