The general public are warned to be on the alert as criminals have strategized ways to attack during this festive period.
IGP, Solomon Arase
The Inspector-general of police, IGP Solomon Arase has raised alarm over plans by hoodlums to use fireworks in aiding criminal activities.
The warning came from the IGP as the festive periods draw nearer. He reminded the general public on the ban on fireworks and warned people against its use. The police he said will not hesitate to arrest violators who will be made to face the full weight of the law.
This was contained in a statement by Force spokesperson, ACP Olabisi Kolawole who made this known yesterday. Kolawole revealed that hoodlums plan to use fireworks to confuse Nigerians in order to carry out their nefarious activities.
“It has come to the knowledge of the Nigeria Police Force that some Nigerians have started using fireworks and firecrackers in anticipation of the yuletide celebrations.
“With the present security situation, occasioned by recent bombings in parts of the country. IGP Solomon Arase is advising Nigerians to desist from using fireworks, otherwise called “knock out” as the ban on it is still in force.
“This warning becomes crucial as there are reports that hoodlums are now using fireworks to confuse Nigerians in order to carry out their nefarious activities. Violators of this warning will be made to face the wrath of the law,” She said.
