Boko Haram Members Are Cowards - Borno Elders Forum

Borno Elders Forum has condemned Boko Haram and its members for bombing mosques and killing innocent people, calling them cowards.

Secretary of Borno Elders Forum, Alhaji Mali Gubio has called on residents of Borno to form mosque guards against the incessant bombing of mosques by Boko Haram suicide bombers.

He said this on Friday while expressing sadness at the rate which mosques are attacked by the insurgents, saying the wave of bombing during congregational prayers in mosques, is worrisome.

He described as an act of cowardice, the incessant bombing of mosques and called the Boko Haram Members cowards. He said instead of them to face the military in the bush, they decided to bomb innocent people praying in mosques.

“It is sad that the Boko Haram fighters have continued to unleashed terror on Muslim worshipers in the state. Residents must stand up and protect themselves by forming Mosque Guards in all areas to halt this madness,’’ he said.

Gubio referred to Islamic history, where the Holy Prophet Muhammad was said to have instructed the formation of Mosque Guards to prevent Muslims from attacks during the early stage of the religion.

“In the early stage of Islam, Mosque Guards were used to protect worshipers from aggression from Idol worshipers. I think we must copy from that by ensuring safety in our mosques. Instead of facing the military in the bush, they decided to bomb innocent people praying in mosques,’’ he remarked.

Gubio stated that the renewed mosque attacks had shown that the insurgents had nothing to do with Islam and expressed optimism that the insurgents' reign of terror will soon end.
