HIV Positive Man Rapes Two Female Children in Benue

 

Terkula Iorpuur a 32 year-old man living with HIV allegedly had forceful carnal knowledge of two young sisters, aged eight and six, in Benue state recently.

 

The mother of the children complained that the girls were not walking properly and she took them to the hospital. At the hospital, the doctors discovered that someone forcefully had sex with the girls and this made them walk abnormally.

 

After careful interrogation, the girls disclosed that Mr. Iorpuur who is their mother's lover did the illegal act with them. Their uncle proceeded to report the matter to the police at ‘B’ Division Police Station, Makurdi, on October 6. Iorpuur was charged to court as rape is a punishable act under section 284 of the Penal code.

 

The prosecutor, Inspector Terzungwe Kajo, told the court that medical examination further revealed that the accused, Terkula Iorpuur,  was HIV positive and had been on drugs.

 

When a child is raped by an adult who is not a family member but is a caregiver or in a position of authority over the child, such as school teachers, religious authorities, or therapists, to name a few, on whom the child is dependent, the effects can be similar to incestual rape which can result in serious and long-term psychological trauma.

 

The case was adjourned till 4th December.
