The poor power situation in Nigeria was made even more glaring today at the Senate during the ministerial screening exercise when power suddenly went off.
While the senators were still screening a ministerial nominee in the Senate, power suddenly failed and for at least seven minutes, the situation remained like that making it seem like there were no personnel to handle that kind of emergency.
The power failed during the screening of Usani Uguru while Eyinnaya Abaribe, a Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) senator representing Abia south, raised a point of order seeking to know if the nominee had submitted his asset declaration forms. But Senate President Bukola Saraki explained that the asset declaration forms of all the nominees were in possession of the senate.
During the power failure, partial darkness enveloped the chamber, but the lawmakers continued the business of screening the nominee not withstanding.
