As many as four persons in Adamawa State have been arrested for extorting people by threatening to kidnap them, Daily Post reports.
The four are said to specialise in calling people and asking them to pay certain amounts of money or they would be kidnapped.
The state Police Command, which disclosed this in a press statement released on Saturday evening, said the command’s operatives attached to the State Intelligence Bureau got the suspects after receiving complaints from victims and acting accordingly.
The statement, signed by Police Public Relations Officer (PPRO), Suleiman Nguroje, said the police operatives, on September 15, 2021, received a report from one Ibrahim Jauro, a native of Shelleng Local Government Area, that he was called and threatened severally by an unknown subscriber to pay N2 million or be kidnapped.
“The CP immidiately deployed the command’s machinery to prevent the intended crime from happening, thereby apprehending the criminal minded persons” the PPRO stated.
He gave the names of the suspects as Farouk Muktar, 40 years old and a resident of Shelleng LGA, and Hamza Dahiru, 39 years old and also a resident of Shelleng.
“In a similar case, on the 15/10/2021 some unknown subscribers repeatedly called and threatened to kidnap Yuguda Adamu, a resident of Namtari, in Yola South LGA, via Gsm no. 09032949636 and 07063607748 or pay N5,000,000,” the PPRO added.
He explained that investigation commenced on the report and luckily a 30-year-old Shuaibu Abdullahi and 31-year-old Saidu Addullahi, both residents of Namtari village, were arrested and they confessed committing the crime.
The PPRO said the four suspects will be charged to court on completion of investigation on them.
