Roma coach, Jose Mourinho has presented a Balenciaga shoe worth €800 (more that N500,000) to 18-year-old Ghanaian sensation, Felix Afena-Gyan.
He had promised hiim the shoe if he scored during their game at Genoa in the Serie A.
Surprisingly, Afena-Gyan came in as a substitute and netted two goals to win the match.
The match scoreline was still at 0-0 before the 18-year-old was introduced as a 75th-minute substitute and he made all the difference in the pulsating encounter.
The teen sensation scored his first goal for Roma in the 82nd minute after he slotted a low driving effort into the bottom corner.
He struck again in stoppage-time from a long range curling shot that beat Genoa goalkeeper, Salvatore Sirigu, into the top corner to seal the victory.
An ecstatic Afena-Gyan ran all the way to Mourinho in jubilation to remind him about his pledge.
Not one to disappoint, Mourinho stuck to his promise and called up the lad into the dressing room to present him the coveted shoes.
“I had promised to buy Felix the shoes he really likes, which are really expensive, they cost €800, as he ran over and told me not to forget! Tomorrow morning, the first thing I do is buy him the boots,” said Mourinho.
The former Chelsea manager also revealed that the Ghanaian teenager will remain with the first-team squad rather than re-joining their youth side.
“I am sorry for Mister De Rossi and the Primavera squad, but Felix will stay with us. The Primavera work close to us, so Felix and another four or five players have come across to the senior squad,” added Mourinho.
“You get these kids now who think they know everything, but he is humble and you can sense he just absorbs all this information from everyone around him. That’s fantastic.
“What impressed me the most was his cool head in front of goal. If he is not in terms of technique fantastic, he does have a strong mentality,” he said.
Afena-Gyan joined the club’s youth side in January and has already fast-tracked his progress into the first-team.
