A unit of vigilante members operating inside Suleja have been arrested.
They were nabbed by the Police in Suleja, Niger State, inside the town’s market over the death of a teenager who they were investigating following alleged missing of N1,000 worth items.
Daily Trust Saturday learnt that the boy, a wheelbarrow pusher, was reported to the vigilante by a trader inside the market, following missing goods for delivery within the market.
A witness, Ibrahim Auwal, said the boy, unfortunately, lost his life while he was being investigated due to the punishment meted on him by the local security members.
Members of the barrow pushers working around the entire IBB market Suleja shut their services in protest of the incident, while cutting the barrow’s tyres of members who did not comply with the strike. The protesters were joined by the traders around the provisions section of the market where the incident took place as they also locked up their shops.
The Divisional Police Officer DPO in charge of Suleja, CSP Michael Katumba, confirmed the incident and the arrest of the vigilante members.
