Ahmed Ammani, the Commissioner of Police in Enugu State, has ordered the investigation of Vincent Oke, an Assistant Superintendent of Police (ASP) accused of sexually assaulting a 17-year-old girl at the police station.

Vincent is serving at the Awgu Division of Enugu Command of the Nigerian Police Force.

The police officer was also accused of extorting N114,000 from the family.

The father of the victim, Mr. Godwin Utobo had in a petition to the state Commissioner of Police, which SaharaReporters obtained on Friday, said the assault happened on March 18, 2022.

He said since he lodged complaints to Awgu police division, nothing has been done about the matter.

The petition, dated August 3, 2022, is titled: "Petition Against ASP Oke Vincent Serving In Awgu Police Station For Sexually Assaulting My Daughter Miss Precious Ojanukwu Who Was Detained In Awgu Police Station And Extortion.”

Narrating the event, Utobo, a native of Afam Agunese Mmalu Awgu, in the Awgu local government area of Enugu, said his teenage daughter, Precious Ojanukwu, was arrested on March 14, following a complaint by one Mr. Ndubuisi Michael who operates POS (Point of sale) point at Awgu Orie Market. Michael had accused Precious of stealing his money.

According to him, her daughter worked for Mr Ndubuisi as POS attendant for four months before she quit the job.

The Police Public Relations Officer, DSP Daniel Ndukwe in a statement on Saturday said the state commissioner of police has ordered his deputy in-charge of the State Criminal Intelligence and Investigation Department (State CIID) “to conduct a thorough investigation and bring up actionable findings on the report.”

The statement read, “The Commissioner of Police, Enugu State Command, CP Ahmed Ammani, fdc, has ordered the Deputy Commissioner of Police in-charge of the State Criminal Intelligence and Investigation Department (State CIID) to conduct a thorough investigation and bring up actionable findings on the report alleging that one Vincent Oke, an Assistant Superintendent of Police (ASP), serving in Awgu Police Division of the Command, sexually assaulted a 17-year old female detainee, one Precious Ojanukwu, on 18/03/2022.

“The Commissioner, while further directing that the investigation be concluded within the shortest possible time, has assured that the case will be given the deserved attention and that the ASP or any other person or persons found culpable, will be appropriately sanctioned.

“The CP notes that the Enugu State Command of the Nigeria Police Force, which is a disciplined organisation that does not condone acts against the rights and dignity of the person, will leave no stone unturned in ensuring that justice is duly served to all involved in the case. He therefore, calls on the parties to make available all the necessary information and evidence required in the investigation.”
