Seven traders who were abducted by kidnappers at Nrobo community in Uzo-Uwani Local Government Area of Enugu State have regained freedom.
The Nation reported they were released after their captors collected N500,000 from the affected families.
Their abductors who initially demanded for N30,000,000 ransom after kidnapping them on Wednesday evening, settled for N500,000 on Friday, September 9 after all efforts showed that the families could not raise more than that.
A member of the affected family, who pleaded for anonymity, said that a female victim is receiving medical treatment at an undisclosed hospital in Enugu.
A community leader in the area, who pleaded anonymity, also allegedly accused some youths in the village of collaborating with criminal elements from outside the area to abduct the people for ransom.
He lamented that the road where the incident happened had become the flashpoint for robbery, kidnapping, and other criminal activities in recent times.
