Keyamo Speaks On Perceived Disunity Between Tinubu And Osinbajo

Posted by Thandiubani on Mon 24th Oct, 2022 - tori.ng

Speaking about Tinubu’s next action plan after the inauguration of the PCC, Keyamo noted that there isn’t any clear statement yet about the region to commence the campaign.

The All Progressives Congress(APC) Presidential Campaign Council (PCC) Spokesman, Festus Keyamo has claimed that there is no disunity between Vice-President Yemi Osinbajo and the party’s presidential candidate, Bola Tinubu.

Keyamo stated that the alleged disunity between Osinbajo and Tinubu is a creation of the Nigerian media and not the party’s reality.

Keyamo in a Punch Newspaper report described Osinbajo as an elder brother and the fact that he lost in the party’s primaries doesn’t reduce the respect the party has for him in any way.

He disclosed that for now, he may not be able to tell if Osinbajo would join the campaign for Tinubu, but what he was sure of is that President Buhari himself had ordered Osinbajo not to be part of the campaign, instead he should face governance.

“The president himself said, ‘Look, don’t be part of the campaign council. Sit back and face governance for now.’ That’s what the president said,” Keyamo told The PUNCH.

Speaking about Tinubu’s next action plan after the inauguration of the PCC, Keyamo noted that there isn’t any clear statement yet about the region to commence the campaign.

He, however, said the party will reach a decision on where the campaign kick-off venue should be next week.

Keyamo, who likened the APC to a 50-tonne trailer said “our party is like a 50-tonne trailer that you want to manoeuvre onto the highway. It is not the same thing as all these small cars that you will just kick and go. To manoeuvre a 50-tonne trailer onto the highway, you must warm the engine well to make sure the brake is effective. This is because if it gets onto the highway, it cannot be stopped because it is a big machine.”

The APC PCC spokesperson advanced that apart from the party being the largest party with the most entrenched interests bigger than that of the PDP, people should also be mindful that the party is the ruling party with the president, who has other commitments and a presidential diary to work with at the apex of the PCC.

“The presidential diary, for those who know what it is, can be filled up from now till January. Seeing the president is not easy, let alone scheduling an appointment. And the fact that you want to schedule a hectic campaign activity into that diary is something else entirely.

“Aside from that, we have other interests from governors, stakeholders, the leadership of the party, the National Working Committee (NWC) and all that. We are synchronising all of these to ensure that once the campaign takes off, it becomes seamless without rancour,” Keyamo added.
