A robbery suspect has been arrested by the operatives of the Ogun State Community, Social Orientation and Safety Corps.

He was nabbed while trying to sell a stolen car in the Abule Oso, Lambe area, the Ifo Local Government Area of the state on Tuesday.

An eyewitness, who spoke with PUNCH Metro on Wednesday, said the suspect simply identified as Sheriff was arrested while he was negotiating to sell one of the stolen vehicles.

Some residents of the area who suspected Sheriff were said to have contacted a member of the corps.

PUNCH Metro gathered that further investigation by the security group revealed that the suspect had earlier stolen another vehicle, repainted it and turned it to private use.

A member of the corps in the Lambe division who did not want his name mentioned in the media because he was not authorised to speak for the security outfit told our correspondent that “He stole a vehicle. He was trying to sell it to one Mallam in the Abule Oso area.

“Meanwhile, one of the So Safe Corps members, who is a friend of Mallam who intended to buy the car, disguised when the transaction was ongoing. They found him with another vehicle, which was also stolen.

“He converted one of the stolen cars for private use. After confessing, he was taken to the Ajuwon Divisional Headquarters from where he had since been transferred to the command headquarters in Eleweran, Abeokuta, the state capital.”

Speaking with PUNCH Metro on Wednesday, the spokesperson of the Corps, Moruf Kolawole, said he was yet to receive the report from the divisional headquarters in the area.

“I am yet to get the report from the division. It ought to have been filed by now,” Kolawole said.

Meanwhile, the state Police Public Relations Officer, Oyeyemi Abimbola, could not be reached for comment as messages and calls sent by our correspondent were yet to be responded to while filing this report.
