Mazi Afam Osigwe
Mazi Afam Osigwe, SAN, has been officially sworn in as the 32nd President of the Nigerian Bar Association, NBA, in Lagos.
Osigwe takes over from Mr Yakubu Maikyau, SAN, whose tenure ended today.
In his inaugural speech, Osigwe stated that under his watch, the NBA will hold governments at all levels accountable for their actions, particularly in areas concerning justice, equity, and the rule of law.
He emphasize the critical role that the legal profession plays in the society, while reinstating the NBA’s commitment to ensuring that government policies align with the aspirations of the Nigerian people.
He called for immediate action on improving security, safeguarding fundamental human rights, and providing essential services such as education, healthcare, and employment opportunities for all Nigerians.
Mazi Afam Osigwe further pledged his commitment to usher in an era where the welfare and professional development of lawyers are paramount.
He emphasized the NBA’s renewed focus on placing its members at the heart of its initiatives. “We will do our utmost best to ensure that we fulfil our promises to engender an NBA that places lawyers at the centre of its programmes,” Osigwe stated.
