Veteran Nigerian rapper Naetochukwu Chikwe, popularly known as Naeto C, has revealed the reasons behind the slowdown in his music career.
The rapper in a podcast interview explained that stepping back from music was a personal choice linked to family life and the future he wanted to build.
After getting married in 2012 and welcoming his first child in 2013, he began to rethink how his career fit into his long-term plans.
According to him, continuing to focus fully on music no longer aligned with the kind of life he envisioned for himself and his family.
“I think I wanted something different when I thought about my future and the kind of life I wanted.
"I got married in 2012, I had my first child in 2013 so looking back at it I don’t really think I would get the kind of life I wanted if I continued to focus on music,” he said.
Naeto C also spoke about how his journey into music began.
He said his early years in the industry were driven by love for the craft rather than a strong desire for fame or commercial rewards.
Music came naturally to him, and his rise in the entertainment scene happened over time as he followed his passion.
He further revealed that he had hoped to release new music this year, but personal issues prevented that from happening.
Despite the delay, the rapper said work is ongoing behind the scenes, and he is now preparing to put out fresh material in the coming year.
Naeto C rose to fame in the mid-2000s and became one of the standout voices in Nigerian hip hop. His popular songs, including Ten Over Ten, helped shape the sound of rap music during that period.
Beyond his chart success, he remains known for inspiring and influencing many younger Nigerian rappers who came after him.
