Rep. Melanie Stansbury, who represents New Mexico’s 1st Congressional District, has described the US military action in Venezuela as illegal.
Trump had earlier declared that the Venezuelan President Nicolás Maduro and his wife were “captured on Saturday morning and flown out of the Country.
The president confirmed a “large scale strike” carried out by the US forces, as explosions were reported in Caracas and elsewhere.
But in her reaction, Rep Melanie in a post on X, said the military action shouldn’t have been carried out without the approval of the Congress.
The post reads, “The White House is confirming U.S. military operations in Venezuela tonight. Let us be clear: these strikes are illegal.
“The President does not have the authority to declare war or undertake large-scale military operations without Congress. Congress must act to rein him in. Immediately”.
